What this page shows
How much oil is in storage, where, and how fast it is being used up.- Oil inventories — reported stock levels from official sources (EIA weekly for the US, PAJ and JODI for Japan incl. its strategic reserve, Eurostat for the EU, JODI for Saudi Arabia, India, Korea and the UK), stacked on a common monthly grid with each card's change since the February pre-war baseline and its historical low.
- Implied inventory change — world production minus consumption from EIA's STEO, month by month and cumulative since January: the balance-of-flows view of the same draw.
- OECD cross-check — EIA's OECD commercial stocks and days of cover against this site's tracked aggregate, indexed to February so the two paths compare directly.

Sources: EIA (US, weekly), PAJ (Japan refiner crude, monthly), Eurostat (EU27, monthly), JODI (Japan incl. strategic reserve, Saudi/India/Korea/UK crude, monthly).
EU series reported in tonnes, converted at 7.33 bbl/t (≈). Monthly series lag 1–3 months; the newest EU months marked
'prelim' are our sum of member states that have reported (laggards carried forward at their last value) and are replaced by the
official EU27 aggregate when it publishes. Series are resampled to month points (latest known value) so the stack aligns; dashed segments mark months where a series' last report is carried forward (not yet published). Overlapping series can't be stacked together (Cushing is part of US commercial crude; EU crude is part of EU oil+products)
— selecting one side automatically deselects the other. Reported stocks overstate what is drawable: tank bottoms, pipeline fill
and legal minimums (e.g. the IEA 90-day obligation in the EU and Japan) cannot be freely used — the 'low since' figure on each
card is the aggregate's historical minimum, an empirical proxy for that operational floor.
World total petroleum, EIA STEO October 2026 edition: monthly inventory change = (production − consumption)
× days in month; green = build, red = draw. Observed through Jul 2026; later months (faded bars, dashed line) are
EIA estimates from the same edition, revised monthly.
Left: EIA's OECD commercial inventory (this year solid, last year dotted) alongside our own tracked aggregate,
all indexed to Feb 2026 = 100. Feb 2026→Jul 2026: OECD
-3.0%, our aggregate
-10.9%, versus OECD
3.0% over the same months a year earlier.
Right: OECD days of forward cover (stocks ÷ OECD consumption). The baskets differ: OECD counts commercial stocks in
the US, Europe and Japan only; ours includes Japan's strategic reserve and the JODI countries (India, Korea, Saudi Arabia, UK).
